Adventures We Have Been On

Our Trip to Whistler by Kashmir and Chasity:

The first thing we did was meet the cabin and get used to it. The cabin was three stories high and had a hot tub. There were three bathrooms and four bedrooms downstairs with five beds. There was one master bedroom on the highest level with a queen mattress. We went in the hot tub quite often.

Before we went out Ashley presented for us. She presented to us about how to speak in public properly. She talked about how you have to stand with confidence and you have to speak with knowledge. She talked to us about her time in her hometown and how she was bullied for having lighter skin. She also told us about her experience of getting into college and getting kicked out and all that jazz, but how she is now successful.

The next thing we did was go to bounce. Sophia and Kashmir went into the other side for the last half of the time there while everyone else decided they wanted to stay in the side that we started in. The other side had a super bounce, the super bounce is just another trampoline but it is way bouncier then the rest. The first side we were in had two sections. In one section there was three trampolines lined up and they even had diagonal trampolines leaning against the walls.

Next, we did a treasure hunt in the Whistler Village. We had to ask people for help and take photos and videos.

On the second to last day we went to the Culture Centre and had a tour. Afterwards, we went to the gift shop and bought gifts for ourselves and others.

On the last day we went on the gondola. It was really fun and high up. We also walked a suspension bridge. It was really wobbly at the ends and felt quite sturdy at the middle. We bought some things in the gift shop.

We bought Tashayna a cute little dream catcher at the gift shop at the top of the gondola. We bought a cool looking bag for Meg at the gift shop at the Culture Centre. We presented these gifts to them in Squamish. They we both so surprised and they were not expecting it. Before heading home we ended up going to the dollar tree and buying food there for the ride home.

All the girls that went were Kashmir, Chasity, Tanisha, Skyla, Sophia, and Diquan. Obviously Tashayna and Meg were there. Ashley was also there for a couple days. We all miss Ashley and wish for her to return to us for more fun and presenting. We all had fun and wish to go back some day, wink wink.

Our Victoria Trip by Jenine and Skyla:

Our Victoria trip was fun. We stayed at the University of Victoria, also called UVIC . We stayed in three dorms at the university, and we all got our own rooms. There were twelve of us who went: Skyla Leo, Jenine Pierre, Sophia Peters, Mellanie James, Chasity O’Donaghy, Kashmir Moorhouse, Tish Peters, Tashayna Peters, Meaghan Hume, Courtney Louie and Shandy Dan.

We went to a town with the T’Souke nation people and also had lunch by the water . We learned from them that they used solar panels for their power. We also went to Aboriginal Awareness week and had a morning session of prayer , made pomp pomps with an elder, and then we had a info session with previous VIDEA interns who went to Zambia . We also went to the First Peoples house and got a tour, and learned about the University, and that there’s also a mini university for kids 14-18 years old, like us. There’s also Aboriginal students that go to UVIC that get great support. Before we left Victoria we gave “Lisa” an elder, and the Chief of T’Souke, traditional baskets from Lusaka, Zambia as thanks-yous for their support. When we got off the ferry, we went to park royal mall and shopped for a bit we went to sirens, and sports check. Then we went home.

Horseback Riding and Lost Lake By Mellanie and Sophia:

One time for girls group, we went horseback riding on a trail ride around a ranch. It was so beautiful! So much green, so much nature. It was pretty awesome I’d have to say. The horses were fat. They walked so slow, and we wish we were able to just canter through the fields. Out on our ride we ran into a bear and the horses were spooked, but not as much as we thought they would be. The horse Sophia was riding wasn’t really a beginning horse, and it was amazing. After horseback riding we went for food. The horseback riding trip was fun, and what we did after the horse back riding trip.

Another trip we went to was to Lost lake in Whistler. It was amazing, there was little baby toads. They were the cutest! One peed on us though, wasn’t pleasant. There was at least 900 toads. They swam in the water, there was so much they were like rock looking if you were standing up. The water at lost lake was clean and it was so deep but had lots of seaweed in it. It felt gross when it touched our feet. There was lots of people at lost lake we were able to get a spot where there was shade and a table. But we didn’t use the table because most of the time we were in the water. After swimming in lost lake we went for KFC and ate in the village park. That day Sophia’s perfume bottle broke on the cement and smelled so strong. The members who were there was Sophia, Chasity, Tish, Kashmir, Meg, Skyla, Elvyra and Tashayna. Since Tashayna was scared of the toads some of us were bugging her with them. It was… fun.
